5 steps to success!

A Makeweb WebshopSo, what are the 5 steps to success?

You have decided to sign up for a website or webshop with Makeweb - now you only have to follow these 5 steps:

Step 1: Place your order.

Step 2: Get a domain name - or configure your domain name (optional).

Step 3: Receive email with details to access your new website administration panel.

Step 4: Add all your information and products to your website/webshop.

Step 5: Invite customers and clients to your new website/webshop.

Each step is explained in detail below:

Step 1: Place your order

You can place your order right here.

If you already know the domain name you want to have your new website on, you should tell us the name in the Comments box on the order confirmation page. Don't worry if you forget - we will get in touch with you and ask for this. We will also ask you if you want any email addresses setup with your domain.

You have up to 5 email addresses for FREE!

Once we have received your order you will automatically receive an order confirmation email with payment instructions. Once we have registered your payment we will proceed with step 3. In the meantime, you should proceed with step 2:

Step 2: Get a domain name - or configure your domain name.

Intro:

For people to visit your website it must have an internet address - a domain name. We do recommend that you register a domain name of your own, although we can also place your website as part of the Makeweb domain name. The cost of a domain is only around $20 per year. If you have already registered the domain you want to use for your new website you must configure it correctly. This is easy and we will show you how below.

Don't worry if this seems a little technical - it really isn't very bad. And remember, you can always ask support.

Register domain name - or configure existing domain name:

First you must register a new domain name. You can do that right here.

You only need to register the domain name - do not purchase any hosting or email services.

But you do need to configure your domain name to point to our nameservers.

This is called Name Server Delegation.

Go to your domain name administration and find a link to manage nameservers. This is an example:

Set nameservers

On the next screen you should be able to enter 2 nameservers and sometimes also an IP address for each nameserver.

You might also have to un-select an option for parking your domain. You do not want to park your domain.

Set Nameserver 1 (Master Name Server) to:

ns1.nameserver.net.nz

Set Nameserver 2 (Slave Name Server) to:

ns2.nameserver.net.nz

If asked for an IP address add these:

For ns1: 119.47.119.240

For ns2: 119.47.119.241

Leave other fields blank (only set 2 nameservers).

This is an example:

Finally, you will need to tell us what domain name you have registered so we can prepare the system for you on that domain name. Please let us know by email.

That is step 2 all done - you have now ensured that visitors to your new website will actually end up at the correct address on the internet.

Next step is step 3 where you will receive an exciting email from Makeweb - for your security Makeweb needs to confirm your domain is configured correctly prior to sending your website administration panel link. This may take up to 24 hours on weekdays.

Step 3: Receive an email with details to access your new website administration panel.

Look out for an exiting email from Makeweb! - This email will contain all access details for your new online administration panel. This email will be sent to the email address registered with your Makeweb account.

Makeweb will need to perform a number of internal steps at this stage before we can send you these details. We aim to send out this email within 24 hours on weekdays.

Step 4: Add all your information and products to your website/webshop.

This part is really exiting! You have received your access details and you can login to your administration panel for the first time.

(Most of the below only applies to webshops)

Take some time to get to know the administration panel, explore all the features and just have some fun experimenting.

Start by adding your website and company information. Then create some product categories and products. Don't forget to also add some information content - find the 'Information Content' link in the navigation menu.

There are many features that you may or may not want to change, and if in doubt you can always contact support for some friendly advice.

Most importantly: Before advertising your new webshop to the world you should try it out by being your own customer by placing orders in your new webshop!

This has 2 objectives:

1: You ensure that all your settings are adjusted to your liking.

2: You get to know what it is like to be a customer at your own webshop, so you can better help and advice your own customers.

Step 5: Invite customers and clients to your new website/webshop.

This is where you start making money!

When you are happy with your website or webshop it is time to invite the world to see it! Show your new domain name everywhere possible and tell it to everyone you meet.

A new adventure begins...
